The Source of the River  The walk to the source of the river is a long one, so Sokhem starts early.
He sets out from his small home alongside the road, and begins walking down the highway, headed for the mountain rising from the fields. The countryside near Siem Reap is some of the flattest land in Cambodia, making its sole mountain all the more distinct, visible for miles in every direction. Atop the mountain is the wellspring of the Tonlé Sap River, which feeds the fields and streams across all of northwest Cambodia, eventually filtering down to become the massive Lake Tonlé Sap.

Morning Microfiction 4.29-5.5 4/29 - tower

From the tower, he can see all there is in his Kingdom. From the tower, he can rule his lands, protected from all evil. From the tower, he can watch the sun rise over the forests and set over the mountains. From the tower, he can let his dreams wander, as he sleeps comfortably.
In the tower, he can hide from the world. In the tower, he can be protected from ever having to talk to a soul. In the tower, he can forget all he ever learned of love.
In the tower, he can die in peace.

Morning Microfiction 4.22-4.28 4/22 -- curio

    He examines the strange little trinket, tucked away behind a vase. It's a necklace, but it also looks like it might be some sort of key. The arrangement of jewels on it is quite nice, and the metal beautifully rusted--on closer inspection, it actually seems to match the design of his grandfather's locked trunk in the attic, that he could never manage to open. A quick glance tells him the shopkeeper is looking away, and he flirts with the idea of pocketing it.
    Instead, he puts it back on the shelf. It's not really his fiancée's style, after all.

It's twenty years ago, and there's a revolution.
She sees him first running. They are running, both of them, fleeing the oncoming tide of humanity, and their eyes catch each other as they fall. In the midst of a maelstrom of chaos, they find a moment of beauty, and cling to it.

It's twenty years later, and there's a revolution.
She clings to him, not wanting to let him run. The world is tearing itself apart, and all he wants to do is run. She should let him, she should send him away, she should make him go, but she does not want to. All she can see is chaos, and she is unwilling to let her child vanish into it.

The Hope Saga

I am serializing a story. It is an AWESOME story. I put months of work into it! I did not write it entirely myself, oh no. It was a roleplay I ran for eight months, with dozens of other players. And now I am cleaning up the logs thereof, and posting them for all to see!

Thank you for being awesome! It was delightful meeting you at Fanime--on your recommendation, I've now gone through and read the Wiki, and the political situation makes a whole lot more sense. (Rereading the first half of chapter 2 again helped too!)
